Monica Charlton

Speech & Language Therapy Assistant

Monica is originally from London, Ontario, Canada where she completed her studies at The University of Western Ontario in Developmental Psychology. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Cognitive Developmental Neuroscience and then went on to complete her Master's degree in Developmental Psychology with a specialisation in Language Development in young children.

During her studies, Monica focused on how the intonation of our speech can help emergent toddlers learn their first words. She worked alongside her colleagues to administer early screening of language, reading and math impairments to kindergarten children in Canadian schools in hopes of identifying early indicators of developmental delays.

While living in Nassau, Monica worked as a speech and language therapy assistant for 3 years and has had much experience administering individualised clinical treatment plans under the supervision of Krysta Leong Poi and other speech and language therapists. She has also helped lead workshops in Early Childhood Intervention and has assisted with in-school screenings in several Nassau preschools.

Monica is very passionate about advocating for the importance of strengthening foundational skills in young children to help them reach their full potential.
